Braddock man fatally shot in car near his home; PA State Police seek tips (2025)

Hours after the deadly shooting, do-not-cross police tape still surrounded the scene as Pennsylvania State Police gathered evidence where a man was shot and killed inside a car next to a basketball court in Braddock early Friday morning.Troopers and medical responders rushing to the scene found 52-year-old Henry Raoule Freeman shot several times, sitting in the driver's seat of his blue Audi.Authorities said at least one gunshot was to the neck.A neighbor told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 they heard the sound of at least two gunshots shortly after 1:30 a.m.Another neighbor later saw flashing police lights but didn't realize what had happened. Freeman was declared dead at the scene less than 20 minutes after he was shot."State police were out there, and then I woke up this morning and found out it was my neighbor," said Linda Lenz.The lot where the car was parked is just above the Library Street basketball court and across the street from the apartment house where Freeman lived upstairs."It's sad. I feel awful. Because he would always knock on my door to see if he has a package, you know," Lenz said.The state police Troop B major case team kept scouring the scene, gathering evidence for more than 10 hours.The investigation into Freeman's killing is still active, with investigator interviews and checks of surveillance video.Pittsburgh's Action News 4 was told there was at least one witness known to police; an acquaintance of the victim.Neighbors said they believe Freeman lived there about six years."He was a real nice guy. Nice to me, anyway. And I would see him out. He knocked on my door a little while ago, maybe three weeks ago, but I wasn't home," Lenz said.She is troubled by the deadly shooting across the street from where she rents her apartment."It's not good. I wanted to get out of my lease; I just couldn't afford to. But come next November, that's a plan," Lenz said.Investigators' attention appeared focused on the inside of the car.
